The Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan and RED Buffer in collaboration with Sub-National Governance (SNG) Programme and Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Government of Punjab are introducing innovative technology solutions to facilitate taxpayers and improve process efficiency.
CERP and RED buffer have successfully won a grant from the Sub-National Governance Programme’s Innovation Challenge Fund (Round I) on Public Financial Management and Fiscal Space. On 06 January 2020 Punjab Finance Minister, Mr. Hashim Jawan Bakht, along with the Team Lead Punjab awarded contract to CERP and RED Buffer for its “Property Tax Innovation through Digital Technology (PTID)” pilot project on Launch of Pilots event hosted by SNG Programme. The projects were selected by the fund after a rigorous evaluation process of 9 months. The launch event was attended by Chairman Planning and Development Board, Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, and members of the private, academic and policy sector. The Sub-National Governance (SNG) programme, a 5-year DFID funded initiative, managed by Oxford Policy Management (OPM), was specifically designed to improve the Pakistan provincial government’s capacity to respond more efficiently and effectively to the public service needs of the local communities. The programme’s primary areas of focus included the implementation of governance policies, efficient public financial management and investment in innovations in governance to improve the access to and satisfaction with the basic public services. The initiative incorporated an iterative and collaborative approach, which encouraged participation and feedback from a range of stakeholders to help achieve relevant and effective results.
