Masterclass Data Analytics & Visualisation

CERP Learning Hub is launching the Masterclass in Advanced Data Analytics & Visualisation. This one-day intensive workshop on 27th August, 2026 introduces participants to the fundamentals of machine learning and applied AI, equipping them with practical skills to build predictive models, evaluate their performance, and integrate AI into real-world data analysis workflows using Python. Through hands-on exercises and a project-based approach, participants will learn to apply regression, clustering, and AI-powered analysis techniques while adopting best practices for verification, responsible AI use, and data-driven decision-making

This masterclass is led by distinguished faculty from the Bloomberg Centre for Government Excellence.

Target Audience

This Masterclass is for early-to-senior career professionals looking to improve their approach to problem solving via structured analysis and impactful visualisation across various sectors such as:

  • Undergraduate and Master’s Students (Economics, Business, Data Science, Social Sciences)
  • Researchers & Academics
  • Policy professionals
  • Analysts & consultants
  • Anyone looking to build practical data skills

Part 2: Advanced

Aug 27, 2026

Transform your analysis into compelling visual narratives.

Key Topics:

  • The median as a model: predictions, errors, and mean absolute error in rupees
  • Machine learning vocabulary mapped onto a dataset (observation, feature, target, model, prediction, error)
  • Regression: fitting a line to prices over time, interpreting slope and intercept
  • Scikit-learn’s three-step pattern: create, fit, predict, and prepare features with pandas
  • Train/test splits by time, and why models are graded only on unseen data
  • Baselines: Compare against the dumbest model that could work
  • Adding features (month, city via one-hot encoding), and keeping them only when the error drops
  • Overfitting: Memorization vs learning
  • Classification: examples from participants’ own work
  • The bridge to AI: language models as next-word predictors, and hallucination as confident prediction without grounding

Module 2: Using AI from code

  • Behind the chat window: APIs, prompts, tokens, and per-token pricing
  • API keys: what they are, why they are secret, storing them in Colab’s Secrets panel
  • A first API call: the client object, the messages format, reading the response and its token usage
  • Writing an ask() helper function, and why the same prompt gives different words each run
  • Pattern 1, summarise and verify: pasting a group by table into a prompt, requesting a fixed format, checking every number against the source table
  • Pattern 2, plain language to pandas: generating code, the read-before-you-run rule, and independent verification
  • Mini-project: one chart plus three verified bullets, with a short public review ·
  • Costs at classroom scale and at production scale, rate limits on a shared key, and the rules for sensitive data
